William James “Count” Basie (1904 – 1984) 是美国爵士乐钢琴手，出生于新泽西州，他从小跟母亲学习钢琴，少年时代的他已经在家乡附近四处演奏。于1935年，他成立了自己的爵士乐团 Count Basie Orchestra，并领导了乐团接近50年，他进行了很多爵士乐上的尝试，名萨克斯风手 Lester Young 亦曾经是他乐团的成员。 Count Basie Orchestra 的经典大碟 April In Paris， 于 1957 年由 Verve Records 唱片公司发行，Norman Granz 监製，此唱片印证了他于现代爵士乐上的成就，同时保留了传统爵士乐的情怀，亦是他商业上最成功的一张专辑，欣赏价值很高。
