The eighth album by the Neapolitan singer and guitarist Carlo Lomanto is titled Blues In My Soul.
The new album by the Neapolitan singer and guitarist Carlo Lomanto is titled Blues in My Soul. Accompanied by Mario Nappi on piano, Rolando Maraviglia on double bass and Dario Guidobaldi on drums, Lomanto recorded eleven songs: four originals and seven very famous classics ranging from Pino Daniele to Billie Holliday, from the Beatles to Edoardo Bennato.
The record is characterized by smoky atmospheres that recall the swing and black music of the 40s and 50s: “I Got the Blues” by Pino Daniele accentuates its swing and nocturnal nature, “Call Center Blues” is a song with a nice R&B groove underlined by Hammond, the arrangement of “God Bless The Child” recalls the atmospheres dear to Robben Ford while “The Music is Over” is driven by a guitar riff that wouldn’t be out of tune on a Rolling Stones album.
The tracks with the acoustic guitar are particularly effective: the delicate version (with an almost gospel flavor) of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, the excursion into the blues delta of “Saint James Infirmary” and the final “Ninna Nonna”.
Lomanto explores black music from jazz to blues, from funk to soul, creating a well-arranged and well-played record that will surely appeal to lovers of the genre.
