The Borneo Jazz Festival is an international event having a two days duration, and taking place in Miri Town, in the Northern Sarawak province, in Malaysian Borneo. The 2018 edition will be the 13th, and it will include traditional, Latin, Caribbean, Afro and funk jazz musicians’ performances, as well as jam sessions and spaces dedicated to young musicians.
The 14th edition of the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival, the largest festival in the southern emisphere, will be held in JIEXPO Kemayoran Jakarta on March 2, 3 and 4, 2018.
During the past editions, almost 500 artists performed in more than 170 concerts. The 2018 edition programme is to be confirmed.
The Montreux Jazz Festival moves again to Japan and will be held in Tokyo’s Yebisu Garden Hall from November 3 to 5. The Jarasum International Jazz Festival, one of the most important festivals in Asia, will be back from 20 to 22 October. The Baku International Jazz Festival will be held from October 20 to 28. Among the featuring artists, Bendik Hofseth, Omri Mor Trio, Matthias Spillman, Bobo Stenson Trio, Sekou Kouyate, Michiel Bortstlap Trio and many others.
The 13th edition of the Shanghai JZ Festival will be held in Shanghai Expo Park on October 14 and 15. Dedicated this year to the “Celebration”, the festival, which has become the most important jazz event in mainland China, schedules this year more than 40 local and international artists on 7 stages. Among the confirmed artists Kool & The Gang, Andy Summers and The Blues Falcons, Chris Dave and the Drumhedz, Jeff Lorber Fusion, Nils Landgren Funk Unit, Toby Mak, Theo Croker, Li Xiaochuan, Sinne Eeg, Coco Zhao, Tina May, Tia Ray and Le Zhang.
The 2017 edition of the Taichung Jazz Festival will be held in the Taiwanese city from October 7 to 15. The program foresees the performance by artists from all over the world, who will play on different stages and venues around the city. The Blue Note Jazz Festival in Japan will be held on September 23 and 24 in Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse. Among the featuring artists, Lianne La Havas, Donald Fagen & The Nightflyers, Kamasi Washington, the Moonchild, Hiromi duet with the Colombian artist Edmar Castañeda on harp, Gregory Porter and many others.
The Taipei City Government has invited famous national and international jazz bands to perform in Taipei City from September 9 to October 31, 2017, in order to introduce to the local public the best artistic activities and to make the audience understand jazz as a musical genre.
The 16th edition of Tokyo Jazz Festival, one of the most prestigious Asian festivals, will be held from September 1 to 3. Among the musicians participating, Chick Corea, Steve Gadd, Lee Ritenour, Pat Martino, Dave Grusin, Dave Weckl, Al Di Meola, Sadao Watanabe, Lee Konitz, Peter Erskine, Gonzalo Rubalcaba.
Django Tokyo Festival will be held on August 26 and 27. It’s probably the only and the biggest gipsy jazz festival in Asia, and it will be hosted on the rooftop at 3331 Art Chiyoda, a renovated arts and events space. Musicians & gigs line up: Adrien Moignard, Toshihiro Nakanishi (中西俊博), Yoshifumi Yamamoto (山本佳史), Cabbage & Burdock, Oriental Shuffle, and many more. At the end of the event there will be a big jam session that the audience can join too.
The Ubud Village Jazz Festival will be held in Arma Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, on August 11 and 12. The programme foresees concerts, new talents and music students concerts, conferences, workshops and a food festival.
The Black Sea Jazz Festival will be held from July 27 to 30 in Batumi (Agiaria, Georgia). Among the featuring artists Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles, Jamiroquai, De La Soul and Joss Stone.
The 2017 edition of Sapporo City Jazz will be held in the Japanese city from July 14 to 27. There will be shows and jam sessions in Sapporo Odori Park and other locations around the city. Among the artists participating, Keiko Lee and special guest Shiho, Mizuho, Solid Sound Jazz Orchestra, Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra, Bluey from Incognito.
The Seul Jazz Festival will take place in the Asian City on May 27 and 28.
