onfiVe is the new album by Leonardo De Lorenzo’s quintet released by AlfaMusic.

A highly talented drummer and a valuable teacher from Italy, Leonardo De Lorenzo has published his new album for AlfaMusic. It features him alongside Ciro Marone (alto sax), Ergio Valente (piano), Giacinto Piracci (electric guitar) and Vincenzo Lamagna (double bass). The album was recorded in the studio with a live audience which increased the intensity and spontaneity.

De Lorenzo is an excellent composer and demonstrates the beauty (and complexity) of his musical vision in the six original songs on the record. The initial “Hope” is emblematic: a beautiful journey into contemporary jazz in which the main riff of the double bass supports an intriguing melody displayed by the guitar and sax. Equally beautiful are the solos of the various elements of the group which introduce the listener to the extraordinary musicians of the project.

“Losing Yourself in a Painting” is a beautiful ballad (with a particularly well-thought-out title), followed by “Il Filo Rosso”, a song in which the leader plays with particularly personal and interesting grooves.

“F Supremacy” is a reflective composition, characterized by beautiful guitar sounds; while “Wild Mind” is an excursion into world music, once again with a beautiful double bass riff and an irresistible groove by De Lorenzo.

The conclusive “Reflection” is again a nocturnal and evocative piece, the perfect conclusion of an extraordinary journey into the sound worlds of De Lorenzo.

onFive is a particularly successful record, well written, well arranged and well played, which demonstrates the skills of De Lorenzo and his quintet.
