Going to Milan’s Blue Note is a habit which always holds high quality surprises, beyond any expectation.
On November 21 we expected a good jazz night, as it always is there, but we have met Jazzmeia Horn, a very young and incredible woman with an extraordinary talent.

Born in Dallas in 1991, Jazzmeia Horn has grown up in a family of many talented musicians, and her grandmother, a pianist and a jazz lover, named her with such a particular name. She started to sing since she was a child, but she approached jazz during her teen years after attending the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

In 2009 she moved to New York, where she continued to study and she started to be acquainted with the city jazz scene.

In 2013 she won the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition and in 2015 the Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition, probably the most important competition nowadays for a jazz musician. Since then, she released her first record, A Social Call, published by Prestige label.

Beyond the biographical notes and her cv, and notwithstanding her young age, Jazzmeia Horn was able to quickly catch the audience’s attention, that became crazy by listening to her.
The vocal extension and the technical mastery reminded the great Ella Fitzgerald, an immense artist who is deeply remembered in the heart of any jazz lover.

Jazzmeia, aware of her talent and relaying of her young age, behaved on the Blue Note stage as if she was at home; the concert was too short, it vanished in a moment, leaving us with the wish of having the possibility of listening to her, seeing her and meeting her again.
