Jon Hendricks, one of the greatest scat-singing performer, passed away in New York on Wednesday, aged 96; the sad news was confirmed by his daughter Aria with The New York Times.
In the 1950s he became famous with the jazz vocal trio Lambert, Hendricks & Ross.
The group was nominated for a Grammy in 1958 for the album Sing A Song of Basie and in the 1960 for the album The Hottest New Group in Jazz.
In 1961, the group scored a Grammy for their album High Flying and in the 1986 Hendricks shared with Bobby McFerrin a second Grammy for Another Night in Tunisia.
