Filtri – Festival di Agitazione Culturale will be held in Turin, Italy, on October 14 and 15, an interesting event having as a theme the fantasy, where I was invited to perform a workshop concerning the subject in the musical world. I took this occasion to interview the four members of the group.
How was Storyfilters born and what is it?
Storyfilters was born in 2015 as a blog. At first, the idea was to tell about the paradox and the ambiguity of the information society by using some key words or some reading filters. In fall 2016 we launched the series Fantasia, inspired by two different texts, one by Gianni Rodari, The Grammar of Fantasy, and the other by Bruno Munari, Fantasia, and we only made a general introduction, by calling many different persons to make new contributions. Such changes took to the creation of FILTRI, that is the new platform where we are now moving. It replaces and completes Storyfilters, a project which was born with different aims.

What are the project forewords?
They are mainly three, one the consequence of the other: to tell about the surrounding reality and its paradoxes, to build intellectual filters to be oriented in the information chaos in which we’re living and develop a multi discipline approach to anything we are facing. It seems like we are rewriting the encyclopedia and that we are showing off, in reality we are a lot more naive than that! Recapping, we are a group of curious people who are building filters through which we analyze the greater part of the information we read, and try not to be confused or, even worst, squeezed by it. It is a methodical exercise we are doing among us and that we started to share with the others by the blog.
Who are the members and what are they in charge of?
At the moment we are four people plus two: Irene Ameglio, Edoardo Faletti, Francesco La Rocca and Andrea Rosada are what we could define the central committee around which are orbiting Astrothumb (Claudio Malpede) and Capitan Scoreggia (Captain Fart).
Inside the central committee everybody’s in charge of everything, while Irene is decidedly more oriented to the communication strategies. Claudio draws cartoons and drawings (among which FILTRI new logo), and Capitan Scoreggia (that at the moment has sailed for an unknown destination)! writes humor songs.

Why the organization of a meeting-festival? How will it develop?
FILTRI – Festival di Agitazione Culturale was thought in order to verify, on field, what we theorize on the blog. It’s mainly the product of a need, of some urgencies of ours: we want to compare ourselves with the real persons, to talk, maybe to insult ourselves, if necessary. It’s also a declaration. Why do we do the blog, we develop the series and all the other things? Because we think that the good ideas arise when agitated minds meet: as it is for particles, which when agitated find new bonds and compose new molecules. And we also want to count ourselves: how many agitators are there around? On the festival manifesto that can be found of our website www.filtri.xyz/manifesto-filtrifest we wrote that, compared with the propagandist, the agitator seems under extinction; it’s the right moment for starting to safeguard this idea and reproduce it.

Whom did you invite and why?
On the website there are all the lecturers-agitators that will attend, each one bringing his own project, a story about what he is doing: journalists, pedagogists, artists, musicians, philosophers, role game players, illustrators, etc. All people using their imagination as a work tool, for developing the things they’re doing. The target is making them to tell us how they do, not through lessons but through practical illustrations. They all are completely free as far as contents and interventions are concerned because, as we know how they usually work, we absolutely trust them. In order to know more about the authors, in addition to reading their biography and visiting their websites, the audience will have the availability of a special edition of the Giornale Ideale (The Ideal Journal), an artistic project by Franco Ariaudo that on a newspaper (like a real one, in tabloid format), publishes only the news that common people send and like. The special edition for the festival collects the ideal news of the lecturers and some details on Filtri, on the imagination and the agitation, written by us.

Which is the target you set for the festival? And for the website?
The idea was to go out a bit from the usual circuits that are, by simplifying, either glossy and supported by the institutions, or dirty and abusive; we wanted to stay in the middle, without great demands and budget, but without wanting to organize a free event.
As far as the website is concerned, we consider the Storyfilters experience as ended. After the festival we will move all the contents we have produced until now (Six Memos, Tutta Fantasia) on www.filtry.xyz and, since then, new serial projects will start: we collected a lot of ideas during these last months, and they’re all in a Telegram chat, at the moment, we should decide which ones to carry on, which tools to use, to whom/what entrust ourselves and to think about the persons to be involved.
