Jazzmeia Horn’s third record is titled Dear Love.
Rising to prominence in 2017 with her first solo album A Social Call, Jazzmeia Horn is one of America’s most talented and well-known contemporary singers. Not interested in contemporary sound or mingling with hip-hop and R&B, her stylistic code develops within an acoustic sound that recalls the more classical era of jazz, sounds further emphasized in this new record by the presence of the “Noble Force” ensemble.
Dear Love is characterized by very different sound atmospheres: the primordial sound of “I Feel You Near”, the big band sound of “He Could Be Perfect”, the very fast swing of “He’s My Guy” and “Lover Come Back to Me”, the nocturnal “Let Us (Take Our Time)” which has an amazing arrangement. There is also the delicate ballad “Money Can’t Buy Me, Love”, the modal atmospheres of “Strive (To Be)” and the string accompaniment of the concluding “Where We Are”. Each song on the album is unique and different, but with a propensity for the jazz sound of the big band era.
Dear Love is a record that confirms Horn’s qualities as a vocalist but also as the leader of an ensemble perfect in evoking sounds of the past without ever falling into the banal exercise of style, with particularly beautiful and successful arrangements.
