Disrespectful
Saxophonist Zhenya Strigalev and drummer Jamie Murray are JZ Replacement, a project that draws on a large number of different genres and styles to create a vital and energetic music, a real sonic slap.
> Ivano Rossato
We can list lots of other things that we disrespect, but lets us get rid of these things in ourselves first.
Usually it goes like this. Zhenya bring some drafts of tunes to the rehearsal. Then we rehearse it, figure out some drum part, make some changes and agree on arrangements. Sometime we end up having one part of one tune mixed with some part of the other tune. It could take up to half a year to finalise a tune. Sometime, its because we just cant technically play what we put together. There are lots of improvisations. Usually there are maximum of 20 percents of written material compare to improvised.
The influences vary from several different sources with improvisation being the foundation on which they grow. Indian music and rhythms to electronica and drum and bass, to tight rhythmical grooves and of course jazz. The sources are mixed into what you hear.
