Nina Simone
Little Girl Blue
Bethlehem, 1958
March 27, 2018
The Afro American singer Nina Simone was born in 1933 in South Carolina, one of the states in which the racial discrimination was harder; Nina was a musical genius and since she was a child she was very determined to become the first black classical musician in the United States, but because of racial discrimination the musical academy refused to enrol her.
Nina had extraordinary vocal and pianistic abilities, and won a singing competition in Atlantic City which made her famous in jazz world.
At the top of her career, in the 1960’s, she dedicated herself to the black community civil rights movements; due to her radical approach she was excluded by the US mainstream scene.
She could do nothing but leave for Africa; she then performed in France, and died in 2003 aged 70, without getting again the fame she had previously reached.
She published more than 40 records, one of the best is Little Girl Blue, released in 1958.
