Ornette Coleman
The Atlantic Years
Atlantic, 2018
Atlantic will release on May 11, 2018 a 10 LP’s box produced as a tribute to Ornette Coleman, the pioneer of free jazz and the legendary saxophonist and composer. The ten LP’s collect the recordings taken for Atlantic, which are definitely among the most important albums in jazz history. In the 1959-1961 years, Coleman recorded a series of albums for the Atlantic label, starting with The Shape of Jazz To Come, which are nowadays regarded as classics, which were the beginning of the free jazz movement. Supported by a band featuring Don Cherry, Charlie Haden and others, Coleman was creating a music which would have had a very great influence on many other great jazz players after him, as John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy. This is the list of the albums included in the box:
The Shape Of Jazz To Come (1959)
Change Of The Century (1959)
This Is Our Music (1960)
