Americana recounts the vision of the American Dream in the view of Grégoire Maret, the harmonica virtuoso, here joined by Romain Collin on the piano and Bill Frisell on the guitar and banjo.
An authentic harmonica virtuoso, Gregoire Maret in Americana explores the themes and the sounds that the collective imagination associates with the United States. An excellent partner on the record is Romain Collin, author of rarefied harmonies which make the sound even more epic.
The line up is completed by Bill Frisell, perhaps the American musician who most explored jazz and Americana together, here on acoustic and electric guitar and banjo, and Clarence Penn on drums. The album generally offers moderate and evocative themes: in addition to the classic “Brothers In Arms” by Dire Straits we find two songs by Frisell, two by Maret, one by Maret and Collin together, “Wichita Lineman” by Jimmy Webb and “Re: Stacks “by Justin Vernon.
Americana is a delicate album, with persuasive and well-kept sounds: a journey into the heart of the prairie with barely mentioned musical panoramas that stimulate the listener’s imagination.
