Aaron Parks releases the sequel to Little Big.
AAron Parks‘ Little Big was released on October 19, 2018. It was a record that saw the pianist exploring the line up with piano, guitar, bass and drums and mixing jazz, hip-hop, rock and electronics brilliantly.
Little Big II: Dreams Of A Mechanical Man elegantly continues the narrative thread of its predecessor. The songs are inspired by very different sound worlds (the jazz of “Solace”; the bluesy performance of “Friendo”, the R&B inspiration of “Attention, Eathlings”, the electronics of “Is Anything Okay? ” and so on).
The lines of Parks and the guitarist Greg Tuohey are always well structured, as in “Here” (in many places recalling the early works of the Pat Metheny Group and the interaction of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays) and the rhythm of David Ginyard Jr. on bass and Tommy Crane on drums constantly adapts to the mood of the song, while remaining always recognizable in its great variety.
Perhaps the most evident quality of the album is however the calm with which the songs are built, which often have long introductions, melodies that breathe, pauses and silences that balance the sounds, making listening to the record an intense journey in the many facets of Aaron Parks.
