Shirley Bassey
Live In Japan
United Artists, 1974
Shirley Bassey, born January 8, 1937, is a Welsh pop singer active since the 1950s and 1960s. In 1959, with the famous song “As I Love You”, she became the first Welsh singer to reach the top of the UK singles chart. In 2000, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (DBE) by Queen Elizabeth II. Her emotional approach to singing coupled with her unique voice makes her performances unforgettable.
She is the only singer who has won three gold records with three songs from the 007 films: “Goldfinger”, “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Moonraker”. Today we will listen to her double live album Shirley Bassey-Live In Japan. This record was very well produced and the Japanese recording level at that time was already among the best in the world.
