Se definió “un viaje de ida y vuelta entre Sicilia y América” la película documental intitulada Sicily Jass – The World’s First Man in Jazz, del joven director italiano Michele Cinque, presentada recientemente al John D. Calandra Italian American Institute en Nueva York. La película cuenta la historia de Nick La Rocca, el trompetista de origen siciliano nacido en Nueva Orleans a fines del siglo XIX, al que debemos el primer disco de la historia del jazz, Livery Stable Blues, grabado en el año 1917 junto con su Original Dixieland Jazz Band.
En el año en que se celebra el centenario del nacimiento del Jazz, la obra de Cinque debe considerarse un tributo a un artista a menudo olvidado por la storiografía oficial. Después de haber participado en el Taormina Film Festival y haber merecido una mención especial en el Salina Doc Festival, la película también se presentará en las ciudades de Argel, Berlín, Amsterdam, Londres, Osaka y Melbourne.
En el año en que se celebra el centenario del nacimiento del Jazz, la obra de Cinque debe considerarse un tributo a un artista a menudo olvidado por la storiografía oficial. Después de haber participado en el Taormina Film Festival y haber merecido una mención especial en el Salina Doc Festival, la película también se presentará en las ciudades de Argel, Berlín, Amsterdam, Londres, Osaka y Melbourne.
