Chet Baker， 1929 年出生於美國的奧克拉荷馬州（Oklahoma ），父母同是音樂家，是一位傳奇小號手及天才，在爵士樂壇的地位可媲美 Miles Davis 及 Dizzy Gillespie 等巨匠。
他與生俱來的憂鬱氣質以及放浪不羈的壞男孩形象，迷倒萬千少女，形象可與電影中的 James Dean 相比較，他亦曾經參與電影 The James Dean Story 的配樂製作。他23歲時就與薩克斯風大師 Charlie Parker 合作演出及錄製唱片，更和 Gerry Mulligan 以無鋼琴四重奏創造出經典的 Cool Jazz，成績一時無兩。然而，沉迷於名利及自我毀滅的個性，使他的人生異常坎坷，在成名之後的他，由於沉迷於毒品，在事業一落千丈後，最後轉往歐洲發展，曾經捲入毒品罪行及打架，更導致口鼻受傷而一度未能演奏，輾轉至最後亦難以東山再起，他58歲時更殞落於阿姆斯特的街頭，而警方的官方調查報告以自殺結案。
Chet Baker 在首張出道專輯 Sings 內初試啼聲當歌手，得到好拍檔吉他手 Russ Freeman 的全力支持，他在唱片內的名曲 “My Funny Valentine”，是經典中的經典，奠定了他同為出色歌手的地位。
