William James “Count” Basie (1904 – 1984) 是美國爵士樂鋼琴手，出生於紐澤西州，他從小跟母親學習鋼琴，少年時代的他已經在家鄉附近四處演奏。於1935年，他成立了自己的爵士樂團 Count Basie Orchestra，並領導了樂團接近50年，他進行了很多爵士樂上的嘗試，名薩克斯風手 Lester Young 亦曾經是他樂團的成員。 Count Basie Orchestra 的經典大碟 April In Paris， 於 1957 年由 Verve Records 唱片公司發行，Norman Granz 監製，此唱片印證了他於現代爵士樂上的成就，同時保留了傳統爵士樂的情懷，亦是他商業上最成功的一張專輯，欣賞價值很高。
