新型單鏡頭半透式反光鏡 SLT 系列將取代舊款 A77 II 的消息，已流傳一段時間；據聞，新機型的研發已趨完成，並進入產品測試階段。新型 A77 MK III 將採用和 A6500 同等級的2400萬畫素感光元件，以及與A77 MK II 相同的相位檢測自動對焦技術（AF-phase detection module ），並搭配全新的混合式自動對焦系統，此外並支援 4K 影片攝錄。
